Were we really meant to live forever?
by Leathercrop inour capacity for adaptation (there's an official term somewhere) is apparently very vast.
meaning that whatever is a novelty always becomes old news and apparently it happens very quickly.
human beings in fact have to put a lot of effort into not discarding valuable things and relationships because of our overwhelming tendency to become incredibly used to it and just plain bored with them.

If you believe you are a spiritual being having a human experience you will not fear death at all.
@ carla - I think there is a lot to potentially fear.
Scripture says that "it is appointed unto man once to die, and then judgment". - Hebrews 9: 7
Thankfully, God took on human form and died in my place at Calvary Hill and I accepted the offer to be judged there for my sin, as opposed to the Great White Throne Judgment. There will be no vicarious punishment available for sin at the GWT.
I have my personal safety guarantee on record from a man who publically stated that he would be killed and then he would resurrect himself from the dead, while he was dead. Then, he did it. So, I have a sound basis for my belief in not fearing death.
He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. - Jesus recorded in John 3: 18
@ Carla - Do you mind if I ask you what is the basis for your belief that you have nothing to fear after death?

New Study: Mars Once Was Completely Covered in Oceans
by Sea Breeze in"the new study indicates that the oceans that covered the entire planet in water were at least 300 metres deep.
they may have been up to one kilometre deep.".
yet, some secularists say they are sure that the earth was never completely flooded with water above the tops of mountains as described in genesis.

Such will always be a problem plaguing any efforts at learning
@TonusOh
At great personal cost, I left one community because of them publishing lying studies.
Why would any XJW invest heavily in another institution of man that is increasingly known for its bias and lying studies? Doesn’t make any sense.
Might as well have stayed a JW as far as I’m concerned.
There must be something else drawing some xjws to continually hold “scientific” studies over the word of God despite all the evidence.

@TonusOH - Here's a "scientific" study that says the earth formed much faster than previously thought.
And this study suggests Mars is made of moving tectonic plates just like earth. So, how can secular scientists be sure that Mars was once covered by water and Earth was not completely covered in water above the mountains as Genesis maintains?
Just looking at pictures of the two planets side by side makes that certitude seem absurd. Secular scientists wouldn't flat out lie to protect an anti-biblical bias would they?
This study notes:
"By selectively excluding study subjects or amending the experimental procedure after designing the study, researchers in the field may be subtly biasing studies to get more positive findings. And once research results are published, journals have little incentive to publish replication studies, which try to check the results.
That means the psychology literature may be littered with effects, or conclusions, that aren't real. [Oops! 5 Retracted Science Studies]
The problem isn't unique to psychology, but the [scientific] field is going through some soul-searching right now. Researchers are creating new initiatives to encourage replication studies"...
Another study notes:
"Among the more than 2,000 retracted life science papers that researchers reviewed in this study, only about 20 percent were retracted because of honest errors. A whopping 70 percent were pulled as a result of scientific misconduct -- that is, lying, cheating and/or stealing".
So, what can be done to combat the documented bias, lying and stealing that goes on in the scientific community? How is the average person supposed to know which scientific studies are false, and which ones are true?

Jehovah's Witnesses suing Dutch State for discrimination
by Tahoe inhttps://nltimes.nl/2023/12/11/jehovahs-witnesses-suing-dutch-state-discrimination .
the jehovah’s witnesses have sued the dutch state for discrimination, the religious organization informed trouw.
they consider it discriminatory that the government investigated them, but no other religious organization, for their handling of sexual abuse cases.. utrecht university conducted the investigation involved, following publications in trouw in which sexual abuse victims within the jehovah’s witnesses described what happened to them, and published the results in january 2020. utrecht university concluded that 60 percent of sexual abuse victims were very critical of how the jehovah’s witnesses handled their cases, scoring the handling a 1 out of 10. many victims were traumatized by how things were handled, the researchers said.. sander dekker, then the minster for legal protection, ordered the investigation at parliament’s insistence because the jehovah’s witnesses failed to arrange an investigation themselves, as the catholic church did at the time with the deetman commission.. the jehovah’s witnesses cooperated in the utrecht university investigation but unsuccessfully tried to stop the publication of its results.

A religious organization suing the state is “fairly unique,” Paul van Sasse van IJsselt, a special professor on law and religion, told Trouw. But he isn’t surprised. The Jehovah’s Witnesses litigate a lot in Europe against government interference and have often been successful in the European Court, he said.
They litigate a lot everywhere else too. In the USA, they WT won the right to disregard the bible and make their children misfit freaks in front of their peers for not honoring the flag of their respective countries.
Romans 1
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. 6For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. 7Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

Matthew 2:1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi a from the east came to Jerusalem 2and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
3When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. ...
9After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
The star took them first to Jerusalem apparently for advertising purposes. Then, the same star led them to the house of Mary and Joseph. Jesus would have been nearly a toddler by this time.
Things happened exactly as God wanted them to.
